Regulation 18 draft Local Plan

Representation ID: 5273

Received: 03/01/2024

Respondent: Dr Toby Walker

Representation Summary:

The proposal to develop an employment area off the Glaston Road in Morcott (see policy E1) is in contradiction to this policy (SS1b). SS1b suggests that any development should be within the planned limits of development. The development of an employment area off Glaston Road in open countryside close to Morcott is entirely inappropriate. The site is prominent from miles around. An industrial site here would be an eyesore. The A47 is two-way at this point and entering it from The Cockpit is already hazardous. Any increase in traffic joining the A47 here would only increase the potential for accidents.

Respondent: Mr Roderick Morgan

Representation Summary:

The inclusion of an a development area along Cockpit Lane, near the A47, is completely inappropriate and contravenes several of the policies in this Plan. The information included (consultant's report) appears to be inaccurate. This potential development area has been included purely because the land owner sees an opportunity for profit, and without any reference to employment, transport, natural environment, local benefit and consultation, or sustainability policy.

Representation Summary:

Morcott as proposed will fall into the Large Village category even though it falls well below the housing number threshold and has no public facilities other than a village hall (run by a trust and not by the Parish Council). The convenience facilities are provided by two petrol filling stations situated on the A47 both of which are inaccessible on foot for the more elderly of the village by virtue of distance or necessity of crossing the A47.

Respondent: Morcott Parish Council

Representation Summary:

Morcott falls into the Larger Village category even though it falls below the housing number threshold defined and has no public facilities other than a village hall (privately owned & run by a trust, not by the Parish Council). The convenience facilities are provided by two petrol filling stations situated on the A47, both of which are inaccessible on foot for many of the village (e.g. including young people, the elderly & the disabled) by virtue of distance or the necessity of crossing the A47. Should the current Spatial Strategy definition of Larger and Smaller Village be retained we suggest that Morcott is redefined as a “Smaller Village”.
