Natural England is supportive of policy EN7. We welcome reference to Natural England’s Green Infrastructure Framework under the section “Why the Policy is needed” and the inclusion of the GI Principles Wheel. We would however like to see reference to the National GI Standards which include Accessible Greenspace, Urban Nature Recovery, Urban Greening Factor, and Urban Tree Canopy Cover. These standards can provide output measures so that developers have certainty over what green infrastructure is needed on site. We suggest that the Green Infrastructure Framework should be included within the list of Supporting Evidence.

Improving the Public Rights of Way network by creating more multiuser routes must be part of any new permissions for land development. Linking up existing routes is espcially important for safety reasons.

Welcome policy EN7’s identification in the supporting text of reservoirs and other blue infrastructure as providing multi-faceted benefits including public access to nature. Part f. of EN7 underlines why the continued and enhanced provision of sport and recreation at Rutland Water enables the most sustainable use of existing facilities and supports the use of active travel in and around Rutland Water to access different activities. The operational need and use of Rutland Water means that it provides or supports all four of the ‘ecosystem services’ listed.
