There is no mention of the rich open-field medieval earthworks that are a vital part of Rutland's heritage that goes back to Anglo-Saxon times. The famous ridge and furrow landscape of Rutland has been sytematically destroyed over the years; 90% has been lost from 1945 - 2020 (The Medieval Earthworks of Rutland by F. Hartley, map on page 22). One earthdigger can destroy 1500 years of history in one day. If it was the removal of Stonehenge to make way for farming, there would be a national outcry. The ridge and furrow landscape of Rutland is of equal national importantance.
