We commend the ambition to improve health and reduce air pollution by encouraging cycling and walking and greater bus use, outlined in greater detail in the Infrastructure Delivery Plan.

Many rural routes lack proper cycling and pedestrian infrastructure, making them hazardous due to speeding traffic. There is also a dependence on motorised transport which creates disparities in access to healthcare and exercise opportunities for village residents.

The proposed bus service improvements do not include Sunday operations, limiting access to urgent care for those without private transport. Public transport services must effectively connect villages to major cities for broader healthcare access.

Based on the information provided there are no major issues identified that are a concern from a strategic transport perspective. Notwithstanding the continued development of our local transport plans and opportunities to work jointly to benefit the delivery of Rutland’s Local Plan.

fully supports the Council’s opening statement of this Chapter, However, we wish to highlight that it is unfortunately exactly the opposite of this that has happened in the unplanned speculative growth that has been allowed to come forward in Oakham over the past few years.
We therefore object to this Chapter and Policy INF1, as it is unclear how “effective” the present strategy would be in the context of the “tests of soundness”.
