The policy takes an appropriate and proportionate approach given the importance of the mineral resources and in view of the potential pressures from built/surface development.
(There are two aspects to potential sterilisation. Physical sterilisation – building over reserves/resource. Proximal sterilisation – caused by locating built development/sensitive uses too close to mineral operations.)
